Lawson State Instructor Lends Expertise to National Nursing Certification Program
Congratulations to Ms. Tiffany Watkins, instructor in Lawson State's Medication Aide Certification (MAC) program, who recently
represented Alabama at a national workshop hosted by the National Council of State
Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in Chicago.
Ms. Watkins was nominated by the Alabama Board of Nursing to participate in the MACE Job Analysis workshop held February 25-26. The session is part of a national effort to support the Medication Aide Certification Examination (MACE), which plays a critical role in certifying medication aides across the country.
"The volunteers who participate on these panels are an integral part of the examination
development process," NCSBN shared in a thank-you letter. The organization values
the insights of subject matter experts like Ms. Watkins, who ensure certification
exams remain accurate, current and comprehensive.
Since 2022, Ms. Watkins has taught nearly 1,000 MAC students, helping to prepare them
for careers in healthcare through quality instruction and mentorship. She joined other
workshop panelists who were:
- Nominated by their respective state boards of nursing
- Vetted by NCSBN for eligibility
- Recognized as subject matter experts in medication aide education or supervision
One of the national nursing board's key responsibilities is to develop and maintain
the MACE and NCLEX-RN/PN examinations. In doing so, they tap into insights from nurses
and educators, like Ms. Watkins, who serve on test item development and review panels.
